本グループでは、水素や水素キャリアの化学エネルギーを電力などの必要とされる形態へ効率的に変換するための材料や、それらを需要に合わせて適切に利用するための貯蔵を担う材料の研究開発を進めています。

電力は特に利用しやすいエネルギーの形態であることから、発電装置である燃料電池の触媒や電解質、さらには生成した電気エネルギーを蓄えるための蓄電池材料の研究を重点的に進めています。新しい材料の探索はもちろんですが、微粒子化や高次構造の形成による従来の材料の高機能化など、様々な材料設計を駆使しながら、効率的なエネルギー利用を支える材料の研究開発に取り組んでいます。

また、水素利用グループと連携しながら開発した材料を用いて燃料電池や蓄電池を構築し、その有効性を早期に検証し、社会実装を加速して行えるよう取り組んでいます。
