本グループでは、水素エネルギー社会の構築へ向け、石油や石炭といった二酸化炭素の排出につながる化石燃料の代替として、水素キャリアを含めた水素ベースの二酸化炭素フリー燃料を効率的に利用し、エネルギーや材料を創製するためのデバイスやシステムの研究開発を行っています。
東京都に代表される大都市ではエネルギーの消費が集中するため、エネルギーの利用に伴う環境の悪化が特に心配されます。この観点から我々は、持続的な都市環境の実現を目的に、燃料電池や水素エンジンを利用したクリーンな水素エネルギーシステムの構築を重点的に進めています。
また、これらを搭載した自動車やバス、家庭用や工業用の機器の普及へ向けた技術課題の解決にも取り組んでいます。水素エネルギーは電力や動力の源としてはもちろんですが、熱や光の形態でも利用できます。それらの新しい展開も視野に入れながら有効な水素利用の探索と普及を進めています。
